It’s a familiar story for many Alphas. You’ve been short of breath. The cough you got from that chest cold two weeks ago won’t go away. Your doctor prescribes an inhaler for asthma, but it’s not helping much. You’re confused, tired and worried about what may be wrong.
The Alpha-1 Foundation's new video, “Short of Breath? Get Tested,” focuses on the symptoms of Alpha-1 and the problems Alphas face getting the right diagnosis. You can help spread awareness about getting tested for Alpha-1 by sharing this video with your friends.

Hi, my son has Alpha 1. He is 2 years old, we found out right after his 1st birthday. It's nice to find another Alpha 1 mom. I thought I was alone.
You mention Alphaone.org ... They are doing clinical trials with a gene therapy product that seems to have great results so far.
My daddy was just diagnosed with this after many many misdiagnoses! You're doing a great thing! Me, my daughter, my brother, his son, my grandma(daddy's momma), aunt(daddy's sister), cousin(aunt's daughter), papa(daddy's daddy) and my great uncle were just tested. We're all carriers except my great Uncle. My grandma and aunt are in the higher risk category though. Hoping that this deficiency can be studied more to help the patients that have it.
hey,
My son is 5 weeks old and we were just told that he either has or is a carrier of alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. I'm waiting for the results to come in ,but I was wondering if you knew the differnce between them. I can't really find a clear answer. I hope all is as well as it can be with your family.
My 5 year old daughter has Alpha 1 and Wilson's disease. We just had our three year old tested but don't know the results yet. The whole thing is really overwhelming and there are just not enough answers. Thanks for your blog.
